How I came to love Bondage

It is probably surprising to most subs who’ve played in my rather over-stocked bondage centric dungeon to hear that for my first few years in BDSM in my personal life and when I because a Professional Bondage Mistress – bondage itself was not one of my favourite activities…

Like many people I think bondage was my first kink experience, back before I even knew that it was a thing – tying my boyfriend to the bed… but the tying part wasn’t really that exciting – I was far more excited when he said “it’s okay – you can hit me harder”…

A few years later when I was introduced to the BDSM community and started attending play parties, munches and other events I gravitated immediately to Corporal Punishment and the D/s side of play. Of course at that stage I was so hungry for knowledge I went to any class or workshop on offer including bondage. But it didn’t quite catch my imagination.

When I started Mistressing professionally first in the late 90s at The Mistresses and then at Salon Kittys. I dutifully practiced my bondage skills and started to get more of an interest… but my obsession for restriction didn’t really kick in until I became an Independent Mistress and dungeon owner.

And I’ve worked out why – I was doing it for myself – and using my own ideas and creativity. So much bondage education is rote learning – and that’s not something that really appeals to me – reproducing ties that an instructor is showing you. It doesn’t leave much space for creativity – and often isn’t applicable to the real dungeon scenarios with regular shaped humans instead of petite bondage models. People who may have health issues, can’t be marked by ropes or who want to be able to stay in positions for a long time with minimal risk.

Then add in all the amazing pieces of equipment that I’ve added over the years and visiting the exceptional playspaces of bondage nerd friends of mine like Troy Orleans in New York   and Mistress Miranda of London who have had amazing gear suggestions and inspirational play. And most of all the absolute freedom to indulge my creativity and obsessions without trying to replicate other people’s work.

And my bondage loving slaves over the last 10-15 years can definitly attest to my changing skills and styles. From starting out with mostly rope (because let’s be honest rope is fairly cheap) to acquiring more and more pieces that I am always discovering new and exciting ways to use. Layering restrictive leather, metal, spandex, latex, wrap and yes – rope to have someone completely at my mercy.
